Irene Cooper Trust

This Bursary is to be awarded on the basis of certain criteria to be established by the Trustees of the Irene Cooper Educational Trust, one of which criteria will be financial need. The recipient must have applied for or be registered in a full-time program of studies at an accredited institution providing training leading to a designation of veterinary doctor, veterinary hospital assistant, veterinary technician or veterinary technologist (or equivalent designation) or leading to a designation of medical doctor, registered nurse, nurse practitioner, registered practical nurse (or equivalent designation), medical technologist or medical technician.


The application must be completed in full. Insufficient information and/or documentation may result in the application being denied.


The Trustees shall have absolute discretion in determining the criteria for awarding bursaries, however in making such awards the Trustees shall give priority to students from the following locations, in the order listed, namely:

  1. Pender Island, British Columbia;

  2. any other Gulf Islands in British Columbia;

  3. remote areas of Vancouver Island;

  4. non-remote areas of Vancouver Island;

  5. remote areas of British Columbia;

  6. non-remote areas of British Columbia;

  7. other Canadian Provinces;

and the Trustees shall also give priority to students with financial need, with no applicants being considered where the family income is greater than three (3) times the current “poverty level”.


The Trustees may, in their sole discretion, choose to renew a bursary for successive academic years where a student demonstrates a high level of academic achievement and potential.
